Gospel Music Through the Years, 6:30 p.m. today, Refuge Baptist Church, Dana. Special
groups include Fairhaven Quartet, the Singing Laymen, Piedmont Quartet, the Teen Tones,
the Sound of Singing Men, Refuge Choir and the Backporch Singers. No admission charge, but
an offering will be taken to help with the expenses of the 34th annual Gospel Music
Festival and Old Time Singing Convention.

Benefit singing for Bud Paulhamus, founder and baritone of Fairhaven Quartet, will be held
at 5 p.m. at Maranatha Baptist Church, 2511 Old Spartanburg Road. Singing: 7 p.m. Silent
auction.

A benefit singing for Bud Paulhamus, founder and baritone of Fairhaven Quartet, will be
held Saturday, March 19, at Maranatha Baptist Church, 2511 Old Spartanburg Highway. Supper
will be served at 5 p.m. and the singing will start at 7 p.m. There will also be a silent
auction during the evening.
Paulhamus had a heart attack and a six bypass operation on Jan. 20. Fairhaven Quartet is
sponsoring the benefit to raise funds for the unmet medical expenses.
Expected singers include Ila Knight, Timeless Reflections Quartet, Gospel Sounds Quartet,
Sound of Singing Men, Purpose and Fairhaven Quartet. Don Sisk will act as master of
ceremonies.

"Benny-fit" barbecue and singing for Benny Nalley, son of Thomas and Sarah
Nalley, 4 to 9 p.m. today, Maranatha Baptist Church, 2511 Old Spartanburg Road, East Flat
Rock. "Pig Out BBQ" will cater from 4 to 5:30 p.m. A concert will follow
featuring the Fairhaven Quartet, Gideon's Torch Quartet, Sound System, Anointed Witness,
Purpose and special guest Ila Knight. Joe Trustee, host of "Sunday in the South"
on WSSL radio, will serve as master of ceremonies. A love offering will be received to
help the Nalley family remain in Chapel Hill while Benny is having surgery at the
University of North Carolina Children's Hospital to correct a tethered spinal cord.
Donations may be made to "The Nalley Benefit" at Macon Bank on Spartanburg

That massed singing was the founding of the Gospel Music Festival and Old Time Singing
Convention which will have its 33rd session this year. The Friday session will begin at
6:30 p.m. The first session on Saturday, Sept. 4, will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the second
session Saturday scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
Special singing groups in this year's festival include the Sexton Family, the Myers Trio,
the Gideons Torch Quartet, Believers Quartet, Freedom Singers, Piedmont Quartet, Skyland
Trio, Brown Family, Fairhaven Quartet, the Bradley Family and the Backporch Singers.

The annual Gospel Music through the Years will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 19, at
Maranatha Baptist Church, East Flat Rock. Pre-registration for this program was conducted
in March and April, so the program is already arranged and will provide lovers of gospel
music a full evening of vocal and instrumental music.
Featured groups for this annual event include the Believers Quartet, Fairhaven Quartet,
Gideons Torch Gospel Quartet, Freedom Singers, Servants Quartet, Brown Family Singers, the
Sound of Singing Men, Backporch Singers and accordionist Craig Garren. Music students
participating include Steve Carson, Kevin Robinson, Craig Garren, Rita Bright, Teresa
Owenby, Scott Turbyfill, Canissa Henn, Maggie Owens, Parker Owens and Amanda Glover.
